Estes animais pr\u00e9-hist\u00f3ricos deixaram suas pegadas enquanto prosseguiam em suas jornadas di\u00e1rias, e fortuitamente, estes registros fossilizaram, deixando pistas valiosas sobre a vida misteriosa do passado. <\/span><br \/><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;line-height: 24px\">As pegadas fossilizadas s\u00e3o encontradas hoje em lajes de arenito retiradas de algumas pedreiras de Araraquara e S\u00e3o Carlos. Estas lajes foram vastamente utilizadas durante os s\u00e9culos passados para o cal\u00e7amento p\u00fablico de diversas cidades do interior paulista. Depois de milh\u00f5es de anos, a areia das dunas compactou-se de tal maneira  &#8211; <i>por c<\/i><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;line-height: 24px\"><i>imenta\u00e7\u00e3o natural dos gr\u00e3os devida aos sais minerais de sua composi\u00e7\u00e3o &#8211; <\/i><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;line-height: 24px\">que transformou-se em rocha (arenito), preservando o registro da vida extinta. <\/span><br \/><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;line-height: 24px\">As dunas do antigo deserto continham um certo teor de umidade que tamb\u00e9m ajudava na preserva\u00e7\u00e3o das pegadas. Por\u00e9m, a umidade n\u00e3o era suficiente para favorecer a fossiliza\u00e7\u00e3o dos restos \u00f3sseos de animais que ali caminhavam. O clima rigoroso, associado ao desgaste pela a\u00e7\u00e3o erosiva dos gr\u00e3os de areia e o vento, destru\u00eda<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;line-height: 24px\"> completamente os corpos dos animais. As camadas inferiores de areia foram sendo gradativamente cobertas por novas camadas que o vento trazia, e as pegadas foram \u201cguardadas\u201d num &#8220;arquivo sedimentar&#8221;.
