[Imagem: University of Florida]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4 align=\"justify\">Peda\u00e7os de \u00e2mbar retirados do Myanmar revelam que os sapos vivem em florestas tropicais h\u00e1 quase 100 milh\u00f5es de anos<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\">Imagine que voc\u00ea \u00e9 um sapo esfomeado e est\u00e1 prestes a dar o bote num apetitoso besouro. Voc\u00eas dois est\u00e3o na casca de uma \u00e1rvore quando, de repente, s\u00e3o engolfados por uma gosma amarelada e grudenta que vem escorrendo pela casca da \u00e1rvore. Voc\u00ea e o besouro morrem instantaneamente por falta de ar \u00e0 medida que a massa de gosma se solidifica e cai no ch\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Noventa e nove milh\u00f5es de anos mais tarde, esse peda\u00e7o de \u00e2mbar recheado com um sapo e sua \u00faltima refei\u00e7\u00e3o (ou quase) foi descoberto na regi\u00e3o de Angbamo, Prov\u00edncia de Kachin, no norte do Myanmar. Outros tr\u00eas peda\u00e7os com sapinhos pr\u00e9-hist\u00f3ricos preservados em seu interior tamb\u00e9m foram encontrados ali perto. As quatro pe\u00e7as, achadas em 2015, foram levadas a laborat\u00f3rio e estudadas minuciosamente por Lida Xing, Ming Bai (ambos da Universidade Chinesa de Geoci\u00eancias) e Edward L. Stanley (Universidade da Fl\u00f3rida, EUA).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Para o co-autor Dr. David Blackburn, curador de herpetologia do Museu de Hist\u00f3ria Natural da Fl\u00f3rida, essas pedras-sapo s\u00e3o um achado especial: &#8220;\u00e9 quase imposs\u00edvel conseguir um sapo f\u00f3ssil desse per\u00edodo que seja pequeno e tenha seus ossinhos preservados quase em 3D&#8221;, declarou ao <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sci-news.com\/paleontology\/burmese-amber-frogs-06102.html\">Sci-News<\/a><\/em>. [Figura de Xing et al., 2018]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p align=\"justify\">Identificados e batizados como <em>Electrorana limoae<\/em> em estudo publicado por Blackburn e seus colegas na <em>Scientific Reports<\/em>, os sapinhos t\u00eam cerca de 2 cent\u00edmetros de comprimento. Apesar disso, conforme revelaram exames de tomografia computadorizada, o \u00e2mbar preservou o cr\u00e2nio, as patas dianteiras e partes da coluna vertebral e patas traseiras. Na mesma pe\u00e7a, repousa um besouro ainda n\u00e3o-identificado, que quase virou janta h\u00e1 99 milh\u00f5es de anos. S\u00e3o os mais antigos f\u00f3sseis de sapos em \u00e2mbar do mundo, superando em alguns milh\u00f5es de anos outras pe\u00e7as provenientes da Rep\u00fablica Dominicana.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Embora revele algumas respostas sobre a vida dos sapos em ambientes tropicais h\u00e1 quase 100 milh\u00f5es de anos, os f\u00f3sseis do <em>Electrorana<\/em> tamb\u00e9m levanta algumas d\u00favidas. Suas caracter\u00edsticas s\u00e3o mais pr\u00f3ximas de esp\u00e9cies vivas que moram em ambientes bem diferentes, como os sapos-parteiros (<em>Alytes sp<\/em>.) e do g\u00eanero <em>Bombina<\/em>. Ao contr\u00e1rio do <em>Electrorana<\/em>, seus parentes modernos vivem em ambientes temperados da Eur\u00e1sia. Os sapos fossilizados do Myanmar deram origem aos seus cong\u00eaneres modernos ou migraram para zonas tropicais vindos de regi\u00f5es de clima mais ameno? Novos estudos podem resolver essa quest\u00e3o em breve, mas nosso amigo <em>Electrorana<\/em> vai continuar passando fome eternamente.
