Qual seria o aroma sentido pelos bich\u00f5es?<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u00c2mbar: s\u00f3lido transl\u00facido e amarelado formado pela solidifica\u00e7\u00e3o da resina de algumas \u00e1rvores. Essa subst\u00e2ncia \u00e9 conhecida pelos f\u00e3s dos dinossauros pois em <em>Jurassic Park<\/em> o material gen\u00e9tico a partir do qual os dinos seriam recriados teria sido preservado numa mosca presa em uma pedra de \u00e2mbar. Embora n\u00e3o seja capaz desse tipo de preserva\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica, o \u00e2mbar vem sendo intensamente estudado pela comunidade cient\u00edfica nos \u00faltimos anos. Entre as descobertas recentes envolvendo o \u00e2mbar, j\u00e1 contamos a hist\u00f3ria da <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/2016\/02\/a-ereo-de-100-milhes-de-anos\/\">ere\u00e7\u00e3o de quase 100 milh\u00f5es de anos<\/a> e a <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/2018\/07\/pedra-sapo\/\">\u00faltima refei\u00e7\u00e3o de um sapo empedrado<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Mas n\u00e3o s\u00e3o apenas insetos e pequenos vertebrados que foram inteiramente incrustrados numa massa de resina s\u00f3lida. Algumas das mais antigas plantas da Terra tamb\u00e9m foram fossilizadas dessa forma. A partir de suas estruturas, podemos ter uma ideia n\u00e3o s\u00f3 de como eram mas tamb\u00e9m de como cheiravam. Essa \u00e9 a conclus\u00e3o de um estudo conduzido por George Poinar Jr. e seu filho, Greg. O Poinar pai, que curiosamente tem J\u00fanior no nome, \u00e9 entom\u00f3logo da Universidade Estadual do Oregon (EUA) enquanto o filho \u00e9 especialista em compostos arom\u00e1ticos.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Juntos, pai e filho analisaram restos de plantas flor\u00edferas contidas em amostras de \u00e2mbar origin\u00e1rias do Myanmar (antiga Birm\u00e2nia) e da Rep\u00fablica Dominicana. Esses f\u00f3sseis vegetais t\u00eam entre 30 e 100 milh\u00f5es de anos \u2014 os mais antigos teriam, portanto, coexistido com dinossauros.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 509px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2018\/08\/Tropidogyne pentaptera.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2018\/08\/image_thumb-1.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"509\" height=\"514\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Exemplar de <em>Tropidogyne pentaptera<\/em> fossilizado em \u00e2mbar birman\u00eas. Para atrair polinizadores, elas dependiam quase exclusivamente da emiss\u00e3o de compostos arom\u00e1ticos. Assim, as flores perfumadas surgiram antes das vistosas e coloridas. Mas qual seria o cheiro desses perfumes t\u00e3o antigos?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\">&#8220;Voc\u00ea n\u00e3o pode detectar ou analisar os compostos qu\u00edmicos de flores f\u00f3sseis, mas pode encontrar os tecidos respons\u00e1veis pelos aromas&#8221;, explica George Poinar ao <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2018-08-fragrances-dinosaurs.html\"><em>Phys.org<\/em><\/a>. Antes disso, por\u00e9m, \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio identificar a planta em quest\u00e3o. Nas amostras birmanesas, os Poinar reconheceram duas esp\u00e9cies j\u00e1 extintas, a <em>Cascolaurus burmensis<\/em> e a <em>Tropidogyne pentaptera<\/em>. Esse \u00e9 o material mais antigo, com aproximadamente 100 milh\u00f5es de anos.<\/p>\n<h4 align=\"justify\">Flagrante fragrante<\/h4>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/3c1703fe8d.site.internapcdn.net\/newman\/csz\/news\/800\/2018\/2-thosefragran.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"480\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Neste <em>zoom<\/em> microsc\u00f3pico, vemos got\u00edculas de \u00f3leos essenciais secretadas por gl\u00e2ndulas da s\u00e9pala da<em> Tropidogyne pentaptera<\/em>. [Imagem: Poinar &amp; Poinar, 2018]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p align=\"justify\">No microsc\u00f3pio, essas flores f\u00f3sseis revelaram algumas de suas estruturas envolvidas na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de aromas, como nect\u00e1rios, tricomas glandulares eli\u00e1foros e osm\u00f3foros. Os nect\u00e1rios, como o nome indica, s\u00e3o os tecidos que produzem n\u00e9ctar e a\u00e7\u00facares que os polinizadores tanto gostam. Tricomas glandulares s\u00e3o c\u00e9lulas peludas que produzem e emitem compostos arom\u00e1ticos. \u00d3leos perfumados s\u00e3o feitos nos eli\u00e1foros, uma esp\u00e9cie de ped\u00fanculo. Por fim, os osm\u00f3foros s\u00e3o gl\u00e2ndulas especializadas na emiss\u00e3o de perfumes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Publicado em 25\/07 na <em>Historical Biology<\/em>, o estudo mostra que esses tecidos especializados das flores do Cret\u00e1ceo t\u00eam estrutura similar \u00e0 das flores que existem hoje. Assim, \u00e9 natural supor que as flores pr\u00e9-hist\u00f3ricas produziam ess\u00eancias e aromas semelhantes aos que conhecemos e sentimos.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">A efic\u00e1cia do perfume como forma de atrair polinizadores \u00e9 demonstrada de forma especial por amostras retiradas da Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, onde foram encontrados restos de uma ascl\u00e9pia (<em>Discoflorus neotropicus<\/em>) e de uma ac\u00e1cia (<i>Senegalia eocaribbeansis<\/i>). Num dos f\u00f3sseis de ac\u00e1cia foi descoberta uma abelha. Fossilizada junto com a flor, o inseto \u00e9 parte de uma pe\u00e7a com idade estimada entre 20 e 30 milh\u00f5es de anos.
