Aparentemente, por\u00e9m, os cientistas que descobriram supostos neutrinos superlum\u00ednicos (mais r\u00e1pidos que a luz) n\u00e3o se lembraram dessa for\u00e7a fundamental. Segundo Alex Knapp conta em seu <a href=\"http:\/\/draft.blogger.com\/goog_1564485918\">blog na <\/a><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alexknapp\/2011\/10\/11\/gravity-may-have-thrown-off-faster-than-light-neutrino-calculations\/\">Forbes<\/a> <\/i><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">(!?)<\/span>, um <a href=\"http:\/\/xxx.lanl.gov\/abs\/1109.6160\">novo artigo<\/a> escrito por Carlo Contaldi, do Imperial College de Londres, contesta os c\u00e1lculos que a equipe do OPERA apresentou como evid\u00eancia para a descoberta de neutrinos que quebraram a barreira da luz.<\/p>\n<p>Em qualquer experimento bem conduzido, rel\u00f3gios sincronizados s\u00e3o essenciais para uma marca\u00e7\u00e3o precisa do tempo. Se esses rel\u00f3gios n\u00e3o estiverem bem ajustados, mas forem usados para c\u00e1lculos de velocidade, o resultado pode ser errado. O problema b\u00e1sico com os dados do OPERA, argumenta Contaldi, \u00e9 que os rel\u00f3gios usados para medir a velocidade dos neutrinos n\u00e3o estavam adequadamente sincronizados.<\/p>\n<p>Os rel\u00f3gios usados no experimento eram sincronizados via GPS. No entanto, segundo o cr\u00edtico italiano, isso n\u00e3o \u00e9 suficientemente preciso. Pode haver discrepancias porque a gravidade em diferentes lugares da superf\u00edcie da Terra n\u00e3o \u00e9 constante. A gravidade no local onde fica o CERN \u2014 na fronteira franco-su\u00ed\u00e7a e n\u00e3o muito longe dos Alpes \u2014 e de onde os neutrinos sa\u00edram \u00e9 ligeiramente maior do que a gravidade de onde fica o detector OPERA \u2014 no centro da It\u00e1lia. Consequentemente, o tempo poderia parecer passar mais lentamente no CERN para quem estivesse no OPERA. Desconsiderar essa diferen\u00e7a, segundo Contaldi, significa que \u201ca medi\u00e7\u00e3o resultante da velocidade do neutrino diferente de <i>c<\/i> n\u00e3o \u00e9 apenas pouco surpreendente, mas deveria ser <i>esperada <\/i>nesse contexto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evidentemente, os cientistas do OPERA ainda n\u00e3o se deram por vencidos e dizem que Contaldi n\u00e3o descreve exatamente os meios pelos quais o grupo sincronizou seus instrumentos. Mas o OPERA aceitou o desafio e pretende revisar seu artigo para esclarecer este ponto. \u00c9 uma briga das boas.
