Constru\u00eddo em 1924, o Hale Solar Laboratory tem um telesc\u00f3pio solar protegido por um domo de mais de 4 metros de di\u00e2metro, uma biblioteca com muitos dos livros e originais dos trabalhos cient\u00edficos de Hale e at\u00e9 mesmo um fosso.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">O pequeno observat\u00f3rio foi constru\u00eddo em estilo Colonial Hisp\u00e2nico. No entanto, Hale tamb\u00e9m tinha grande interesse em egiptologia e pediu que um front\u00e3o em estilo eg\u00edpcio fosse colocado acima da entrada principal. Ele foi co-fundador tanto da Uni\u00e3o Astron\u00f4mica Internacional quanto do <em>Astrophysical Journal<\/em>, a principal publica\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica dedicada \u00e0 Astronomia nos Estados Unidos. Ao construir o Yerkes Observatory em Winsconsin (em 1897) e os Observat\u00f3rios de Monte Wilson (1904-08) e Monte Palomar (1928-48), na Calif\u00f3rnia, Hale conseguiu a fa\u00e7anha de construir o maior telesc\u00f3pio do planeta \u2014 tr\u00eas vezes seguidas. S\u00f3 por isso, Hale \u00e9 considerado pelos americanos como o respons\u00e1vel pelo surgimento da astrof\u00edsica moderna na Am\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n<p>Ap\u00f3s aposentar-se como diretor do Observat\u00f3rio de Monte Wilson, Hale encomendou a constru\u00e7\u00e3o desse seu laborat\u00f3rio pessoal em Pasadena. Ele faleceu em 1938, aos 69 anos, mas importantes descobertas continuaram a ser feitas em seu laborat\u00f3rio pessoal, que foi legado ao Observat\u00f3rio de Monte Wilson.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Atualmente, o Laborat\u00f3rio Solar de Hale \u00e9 um Monumento Hist\u00f3rico Nacional e sede do Mount Wilson Institute.
