Mas o telesc\u00f3pio espacial Kepler pode ter acabado de localizar um Merc\u00fario que literalmente est\u00e1 a todo vapor. O exoplaneta, do tamanho do nosso vizinho mais pr\u00f3ximo do Sol, normalmente n\u00e3o seria vis\u00edvel. Mas suas condi\u00e7\u00f5es extraordin\u00e1rias de temperatura e press\u00e3o o tornam bastante indiscreto.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Ele orbita a estrela KIC 12557548 (situada a uns 1.500 anos-luz do Sol), completando uma transla\u00e7\u00e3o em pouco menos de 16 horas. Esse per\u00edodo orbital curt\u00edssimo \u2014 menor do que um dia terrestre \u2014 indica que o planeta KIC 12557548b est\u00e1 a apenas 0,01 UA de sua estrela, isto \u00e9, a uma dist\u00e2ncia igual a 1% da que separa a Terra do Sol. Mas sendo t\u00e3o pequeno e t\u00e3o veloz, como esse planeta pode ser detectado? Normalmente, planetas extra-solares s\u00e3o encontrados atrav\u00e9s do m\u00e9todo de tr\u00e2nsito: ao passarem diante de sua estrela, eles causam uma pequena diminui\u00e7\u00e3o de brilho, ou um microeclipse, que se repete de acordo com o per\u00edodo da \u00f3rbita.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">O problema \u00e9 que o planeta encontrado junto de KIC 12557548 (e que, dado o clima pr\u00e9-carnavalesco, vamos apelidar de \u201cFrevo\u201d) n\u00e3o parecia ter uma \u00f3rbita muito regular. Para explicar as discrep\u00e2ncias, os astr\u00f4nomos liderados por Saul Rappaport (do MIT) procuraram primeiro por outros companheiros planet\u00e1rios, que causam perturba\u00e7\u00f5es orbitais. Nada. \u201cE se o sistema planet\u00e1rio for bin\u00e1rio?\u201d, pensaram. Nada tamb\u00e9m.\u00a0 As observa\u00e7\u00f5es tamb\u00e9m descartaram essa hip\u00f3tese. Sobrou a \u00fanica explica\u00e7\u00e3o poss\u00edvel: o planeta observado estava se evaporando. Surpreendentemente, era um planeta rochoso, que como j\u00e1 dissemos, tem dimens\u00f5es similares a Merc\u00fario. [Imagem: <em>ESA \/ Alfred Vidal-Madjar, Institut d\u2019Astrophysique de Paris, CNRS, France<\/em>]<\/h6>\n<p align=\"justify\">Com uma temperatura de 2000 kelvin, a superf\u00edcie do \u201cFrevo\u201d \u00e9 capaz de vaporizar piroxeno e olivina, os minerais mais comuns na composi\u00e7\u00e3o de planetas rochosos. Se fosse um pouco maior, o planeta teria for\u00e7a gravitacional suficiente para ter uma \u201catmosfera rochosa\u201d como a de alguns <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hot_Jupiter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hot jupiters<\/a><\/em>. Como n\u00e3o \u00e9, est\u00e1 evaporando feito um cometa gigante. A cada segundo o planeta lan\u00e7a 100.000 toneladas de vapor ultra-fervente ao espa\u00e7o! Parece uma perda desesperadora, mas o planeta n\u00e3o vai sumir amanh\u00e3. Nem depois. O \u201cFrevo\u201d s\u00f3 vai se vaporizar completamente dentro de 200 milh\u00f5es de anos. Um otimista panglossiano diria que a situa\u00e7\u00e3o l\u00e1 est\u00e1 mais para um banho-maria do que para um alto-forno.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Se tudo for confirmado, o que estamos observando no sistema KIC 12557548 \u00e9 s\u00f3 uma pr\u00e9via do que deve acontecer futuramente no sistema solar.
