Por isso mesmo, essas j\u00f3ias c\u00f3smicas quase sempre t\u00eam uma forma visivelmente redonda, espiral, discoide, oval ou globular. Ou seja, de coisas que giram. Como exce\u00e7\u00e3o, h\u00e1 as gal\u00e1xias irregulares.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Mas\u00a0 LEDA 074886 \u00e9 a exce\u00e7\u00e3o das exce\u00e7\u00f5es \u2014 tem uma forma retangular com os cantos arredondados, como uma esmeralda. \u201c\u00c9 uma dessas coisas que te faz sorrir porque n\u00e3o deveria existir ou, pelo menos, voc\u00ea n\u00e3o espera que exista\u201d, disse o Professor-Associado Allister Graham da Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), na Austr\u00e1lia.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2012\/03\/Galaxy_LEDA_074886.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border: 0pt none\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2012\/03\/Galaxy_LEDA_074886_thumb.png\" alt=\"Galaxy_LEDA_074886\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nesta imagem em cores falsas, os pesquisadores ressaltam o disco de estrelas jovens que se formou no centro da gal\u00e1xia. (cr\u00e9dito: Dr. Lee Spitler, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\" align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\">A gema gal\u00e1ctica n\u00e3o s\u00f3 era inesperada, como foi descoberta totalmente por acaso. Coordenada pelo astrof\u00edsico australiano Prof. Graham, uma equipe internacional \u2014 formada por pesquisadores australianos, su\u00ed\u00e7os, finlandeses e alem\u00e3es \u2014 encontrou a LEDA 074886 em uma grande imagem do telesc\u00f3pio japon\u00eas Subaru enquanto buscava gal\u00e1xias globulares em torno da gal\u00e1xia gigante NGC 1407. A princ\u00edpio o que chamou a aten\u00e7\u00e3o dos astr\u00f4nomos n\u00e3o foi o formato e sim a pequenez da LEDA 074886, que tem 50 vezes menos estrelas que a Via-L\u00e1ctea. Situada na dire\u00e7\u00e3o da constela\u00e7\u00e3o Eridanus, a 70 milh\u00f5es de anos-luz da Terra, \u00e9 uma gal\u00e1xia-an\u00e3.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">No <em><a href=\"http:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/1203.3608v1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">paper<\/a><\/em> sobre a descoberta, Graham<em> et. al.<\/em> tentam explicar a forma da \u201cgal\u00e1xia-esmeralda\u201d, express\u00e3o que usam para descrev\u00ea-la. Uma das explica\u00e7\u00f5es \u00e9 que essa gal\u00e1xia-an\u00e3 teria rota\u00e7\u00e3o cilindr\u00edca mas est\u00e1 alinhada de tal forma que s\u00f3 vemos sua face lateral, o que parece retangular.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">No entanto, a hip\u00f3tese mais prov\u00e1vel, segundo o artigo, \u00e9 que esse incomum formato retangular se deve a um processo de colis\u00e3o entre duas gal\u00e1xias (uma esferoide e uma disc\u00f3ide ou ambas disc\u00f3ides).\u00a0Duncan Forbes, co-autor australiano, explica: &#8220;Uma possibilidade \u00e9 que a gal\u00e1xia tenha se formado a partir da colis\u00e3o de duas gal\u00e1xias espirais. Enquanto as estrelas pr\u00e9-existentes nas gal\u00e1xias iniciais foram lan\u00e7adas em largas \u00f3rbitas que criaram a forma de esmeralda, o g\u00e1s afundou para o plano mediano, onde se condensou para formar novas estrelas e o disco que n\u00f3s observamos.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">O que estamos vendo, portanto, \u00e9 apenas uma parte de um longo e ca\u00f3tico processo de reorganiza\u00e7\u00e3o das estrelas (e planetas?) envolvidos.
