D\u00e1 pra fazer o mesmo com dados transmitidos por fibra \u00f3tica? Uma equipe de pesquisadores descobriu que sim, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel. E isso permitiria velocidades de at\u00e9 2,5 terabits por segundo (tbps).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Antes de sair por a\u00ed torcendo cabos transmissores de luz para acelerar sua conex\u00e3o, \u00e9 bom saber que o processo descoberto n\u00e3o envolve mudan\u00e7as f\u00edsicas. Ao contr\u00e1rio das balas ou dos l\u00edquidos, \u00e9 preciso modificar a forma como a pr\u00f3pria luz viaja e n\u00e3o o meio por onde ela passa. Segundo o <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geeksaresexy.net\/2012\/06\/26\/2-5-terabits-per-second-downloads-researchers-unveil-fiber-optic-transmission-with-a-twist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Geeks are Sexy<\/a><\/em>,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">A t\u00e9cnica envolve o controle do movimento de ondas luminosas de duas formas diferentes: atrav\u00e9s do momentum angular do spin (que j\u00e1 \u00e9 controlado em transmiss\u00f5es de ondas de r\u00e1dio) e do momentum orbital angular (que ainda n\u00e3o havia sido controlada).<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">A analogia mais popular \u00e9 que antes \u00e9ramos capazes de controlar a forma como a Terra gira sobre seu eixo e agora temos a habilidade para controlar o modo como ela gira ao redor do Sol. Outra maneira de representar isso seria com parafusos: antes s\u00f3 pod\u00edamos controlar o lado para o qual podemos gir\u00e1-los, enquanto agora n\u00f3s podemos variar a rosca e assim controlar o quanto podemos gir\u00e1-los.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\">Em outras palavras, \u00e9 a luz que precisa ser retorcida. O controle simult\u00e2neo de ambos os <em><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">momentums<\/span> momenta<\/em> da luz j\u00e1 havia sido teoricamente demonstrado por cientistas italianos e suecos em mar\u00e7o deste ano. Os pesquisadores da University of Southern California, Nasa Jet Propulsion Laboratory e da Universidade de Tel Aviv comprovaram a teoria com experimentos. Os resultados foram publicados em um paper na \u00faltima edi\u00e7\u00e3o da <em>Nature Photonics<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Na experi\u00eancia, os pesquisadores americanos e israelenses criaram um emissor que junta oito feixes de luz em um s\u00f3, com quatro \u201cretorcidos\u201d juntos no centro e os outro quatro em volta do centro, como em um anel. Na recep\u00e7\u00e3o, esse feixe m\u00faltiplo e retorcido \u00e9 desfeito e, depois disso, os dados podem ser extra\u00eddos dos oito feixes originais. Como h\u00e1 oito feixes no lugar de um e sobra espa\u00e7o no cabo, isso permite velocidades de at\u00e9 2,5 tbps.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Atualmente, para multiplicar a capacidade de transmiss\u00e3o, usam-se feixes de luz com cores diferentes. No futuro, pode ser poss\u00edvel usar luz da mesma cor, mas com momentos orbitais angulares distintos.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Como n\u00e3o podia deixar de ser, h\u00e1 um <em>por\u00e9m<\/em>. O experimento foi feito com um cabo de apenas um metro de comprimento e h\u00e1 evid\u00eancias de que o efeito seria limitado a longas dist\u00e2ncias. A t\u00e9cnica s\u00f3 funcionaria em transmiss\u00f5es de um quil\u00f4metro ou menos. Mas o sonho de baixar <em>bluerays<\/em> em segundos ainda n\u00e3o est\u00e1 perdido.
