Da\u00ed, ao tentar responder, voc\u00ea fica atordoado pensando se algo t\u00e3o grande, t\u00e3o vasto, t\u00e3o desconhecido e t\u00e3o obscuro pode ser representado visualmente por uma \u00fanica cor. Se mesmo assim voc\u00ea ousasse fazer essa pegunta aos astr\u00f4nomos h\u00e1 alguns anos, a maioria responderia que o Universo \u00e9 de um turquesa-p\u00e1lido. Um pouco \u00f3bvio, pensando bem.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Mas e se lhe dissessem que a cor do Universo estaria mais para um bege bem caf\u00e9-com-leite? Segundo o <em><a href=\"http:\/\/sciencesoup.tumblr.com\/post\/27877203742\/whats-the-colour-of-the-universe-if-you-want-to\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Science Soup<\/a><\/em>, tal cor foi mencionada pela primeira vez em uma nota de rodap\u00e9 de um <em>paper<\/em> sobre forma\u00e7\u00e3o de estrelas escrito por dois astr\u00f4nomos da Johns Hopkins University \u2014 infelizmente o <em>Soup<\/em> n\u00e3o cita os autores do tal <em>paper<\/em>. Foi um chute, mas ainda assim foi um chute com m\u00e9todo cient\u00edfico, pois foi confirmado em uma pesquisa publicada na edi\u00e7\u00e3o de dezembro de 2003 do <em>Astrophysical Journal<\/em>. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Liderada pelo alem\u00e3o Gregory Rudnick, uma equipe de astr\u00f4nomos da Alemanha, da Holanda e dos Estados Unidos usou dados do &#8220;Hubble Deep Field South (HDF-S)&#8221;, uma min\u00fascula por\u00e7\u00e3o do c\u00e9u ao sul da constela\u00e7\u00e3o de Tucanae, o Tucano. Embora seja 100 vezes menor que uma Lua Cheia, essa \u00e1rea abriga cerca de 300 gal\u00e1xias vis\u00edveis pelo telesc\u00f3pio espacial Hubble. Eles reuniram a luz das gal\u00e1xias daquela regi\u00e3o, processaram o amontoado luminoso e repartiram-no, como num prisma que separa a luz nas cores do arco-\u00edris. Depois, eles \u201cfizeram uma m\u00e9dia\u201d de tudo e deram com uma cor que \u2014 se fosse vis\u00edvel ao olho humano, j\u00e1 que outras ondas luminosas al\u00e9m do espectro vis\u00edvel tamb\u00e9m foram consideradas \u2014 seria bege. Tipo, assim:<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block;float: none;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2012\/11\/tumblr_m7lw8r60yi1rx06nvo1_500.jpg\" alt=\"What\u2019s the colour of the universe?&lt;br \/&gt;&lt;br \/&gt;&lt;br \/&gt;&lt;br \/&gt;\nIf you want to make a cosmic latte from scratch, you must first invent the universe. No, seriously\u2014\u201ccosmic latte\u201d is actually the average colour assigned to the universe. Astronomers once thought it was an intriguing pale turquoise, but it\u2019s really just an ordinary-looking beige. This colour was first mentioned in the footnote of a paper on star formation, written by two astronomers at Johns Hopkins University who determined the colour just for kicks. They took the light of 200,000 galaxies, processed it and broke it into colours like a prism separates light into the colours of the rainbow, then averaged them all out\u2014and came up with a colour that, if the human eye could see it, would be beige. Interestingly, the colour has become a lot less blue over the past 10 billion years, indicating that the young universe was dominated by newborn blue stars, but is gradually becoming dominated by older, redder stars. In a contest to name the colour something more interesting than beige, notable entries included \u201cskyvory\u201d and \u201cuniveige\u201d, but the winner was, of course, \u201ccosmic latte\u201d.&lt;br \/&gt;&lt;br \/&gt;&lt;br \/&gt;&lt;br \/&gt;\nRead about star formation and colouration on Universe Today\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\">N\u00e3o foi um experimento \u00e0-toa, fruto de curiosidade infantil. Esta descoberta foi mais uma confirma\u00e7\u00e3o da evolu\u00e7\u00e3o estelar e, em \u00faltima an\u00e1lise, do Big Bang. Sim, porque os astr\u00f4nomos descobriram que a cor universal tem sido cada vez menos azul ao longo dos \u00faltimos 10 bilh\u00f5es de anos. Faz sentido, afinal o Universo est\u00e1 sendo cada vez mais habitado por estrelas mais velhas e avermelhadas, que est\u00e3o tomando o lugar das gigantes azuladas da primeira gera\u00e7\u00e3o estelar.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Rudnick tamb\u00e9m comenta outro aspecto da descoberta: &#8220;Uma vez que a quantidade total de luz no passado do Universo era quase a mesma de hoje e as jovens estrelas vermelhas emitem muito mais luz do que envelhecidas estrelas vermelhas, deve ter havido significativamente menos estrelas no Universo jovem do que h\u00e1 hoje. Nossas descobertas implicam que a maioria das estrelas do Universo foram formadas relativamente tarde, n\u00e3o muito antes do nascimento de nosso Sol, num momento em que o Universo tinha cerca de 7 bilh\u00f5es de anos&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Ok, achar a cor do Universo nem era o objetivo principal da pesquisa, mas foi uma interessante surpresa. Mas e quanto ao nome dessa cor? N\u00e3o se trata, evidentemente, de um bege comum e cor-do-universo seria algo pouco instigante.
