Compara\u00e7\u00f5es como essas s\u00e3o relativamente comuns \u2014 e podem estar mais pr\u00f3ximas da realidade do que se imagina. \u00c9 o que revela um estudo rec\u00e9m-publicado no <em>Scientific Reports<\/em>, que demonstra as similaridades existentes entre as leis que regem c\u00e9rebros, redes de computadores e o pr\u00f3prio Cosmos.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Atrav\u00e9s de complexas simula\u00e7\u00f5es em supercomputadores do San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) e diversos c\u00e1lculos, a equipe da Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA) acaba de provar que rede causal que representa estruturas de larga escala no espa\u00e7o e no tempo de nosso universo forma um gr\u00e1fico. E esse gr\u00e1fico \u00e9 notavelmente parecido com o de outras redes complexas, como as formadas por neur\u00f4nios, pessoas ou computadores.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Mas espere a\u00ed \u2014 o que o espa\u00e7o-tempo quadridimensional tem a ver com o crescimento da <em>web<\/em>? A resposta est\u00e1 na causalidade, que \u00e9 a base de ambos os sistemas complexos. Mas ser\u00e1 que a escala n\u00e3o faria nenhuma diferen\u00e7a? A internet, por exemplo, \u00e9 uma rede complexa, mas finita. O mesmo vale para o c\u00e9rebro humano ou popula\u00e7\u00f5es de sociedades, que s\u00e3o formados por n\u00fameros finitos de unidades individuais \u2014 neur\u00f4nios nos c\u00e9rebros e pessoas em sociedades. At\u00e9 onde se sabe, o universo \u00e9 (ou tende a ser) infinito.<\/p>\n<h3 align=\"justify\">Discrep\u00e2ncia absurda e um <em>hack<\/em> engenhoso<\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\">De fato, a discrep\u00e2ncia da escala \u00e9 absurdamente enorme. Mesmo que o universo seja finito, os melhores \u201cchutes\u201d dos cientistas indicam que ele n\u00e3o tem menos de 10^250 [ou 1 seguido de 250 zeros] \u201c\u00e1tomos\u201d (ou \u201cpixels\u201d) de espa\u00e7o-tempo. Para efeito de compara\u00e7\u00e3o, o n\u00famero de mol\u00e9culas em todos os oceanos do mundo \u00e9 estimado em 4,4.10^46 [ou 4,4 seguido de &#8220;apenas&#8221; 46 zeros].<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Mesmo assim, Dmitri Krioukov<em> et al.<\/em> conseguiram \u201cresumir\u201d essa imensa rede cosmol\u00f3gica sem interferir em suas propriedades b\u00e1sicas. Entre outras coisas, o paper prova matematicamente que essas propriedades n\u00e3o dependem do tamanho da rede em determinados par\u00e2metros, como a curvatura e a idade do nosso universo.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Depois de \u201czipar\u201d o universo(!), a equipe da CAIDA botou o <em>Trestles<\/em> \u2014 um dos supercomputadores do SDSC \u2014 pra trabalhar, rodando simula\u00e7\u00f5es da crescente rede causal do universo. Mesmo nessa superm\u00e1quina, o resultado iria demandar tr\u00eas a quatro anos de computa\u00e7\u00f5es. Da\u00ed, Robert Sinkovits, um dos coautores, otimizou a aplica\u00e7\u00e3o e, com um <em>hack<\/em>, fez o <em>Trestles<\/em> terminar a simula\u00e7\u00e3o em pouco mais de 24 horas. A pressa n\u00e3o parece ter afetado o trabalho. Segundo Sinkovits, \u201cos resultados ajustaram-se perfeitamente \u00e0s previs\u00f5es te\u00f3ricas dos pesquisadores.\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">O diretor do SDSC, Michael Norman, declarou que o estudo \u00e9 \u201cum exemplo perfeito de pesquisa interdisciplinar, que combina matem\u00e1tica, f\u00edsica e ci\u00eancia da computa\u00e7\u00e3o de maneiras completamente inesperadas.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 align=\"justify\">Estamos na <em>Matrix<\/em>?<\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\">Apesar das semelhan\u00e7as, \u00e9 cedo para fazer extrapola\u00e7\u00f5es. \u201cDe maneira alguma afirmamos que o universo \u00e9 um c\u00e9rebro ou computador global\u201d, disse Dmitri Krioukov. \u201cMas a equival\u00eancia descoberta entre o crescimento do univero e redes complexas sugere fortemente que leis inesperadamente similares governam a din\u00e2mica desses sistemas t\u00e3o distintos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Krioukov ainda declarou que a semelhan\u00e7a observada pode ser apenas uma coincid\u00eancia. \u201cClaro que poderia ser\u201d \u2014 diz ele \u2014 \u201cmas a probabilidade de tal coincid\u00eancia \u00e9 extremamente baixa. Coincid\u00eancias na f\u00edsica s\u00e3o extremamente raras e quase nunca acontecem. Sempre h\u00e1 uma explica\u00e7\u00e3o, ainda que possa n\u00e3o ser imediatamente \u00f3bvia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">A possibilidade de prever ou mesmo controlar a din\u00e2mica de redes complexas continua a ser o principal enigma da <em>network science<\/em>, a ci\u00eancia das redes. As semelhan\u00e7as din\u00e2micas e estruturais entre as diferentes redes estudadas sugere que algumas leis universais estejam em a\u00e7\u00e3o. Quais s\u00e3o e como se originaram essas leis universais s\u00e3o quest\u00f5es que continuam sem resposta.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Por fim, como se trata de um experimento \u00fanico, seus resultados s\u00e3o apenas preliminares. Novas pesquisas podem mostrar se tudo o que foi descoberto n\u00e3o passa de apenas uma coincid\u00eancia incrivelmente fortuita ou se a descoberta \u00e9 realmente revolucion\u00e1ria. No entanto, basta um momento de reflex\u00e3o l\u00f3gica para concluir pelo acerto dos resultados: sistemas complexos dentro de um universo devem ser similares a esse universo.
