Mas esta velha tecnologia que remonta ao fim do s\u00e9culo XIX acaba de ser miniaturizada e entrar no s\u00e9culo XXI.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Para os novinhos (e velhinhos) que n\u00e3o se lembram dele, o motor de dois tempos \u00e9 uma m\u00e1quina de combust\u00e3o interna formada basicamente por um pist\u00e3o e uma c\u00e2mara de combust\u00e3o ou cilindro. Pode haver um ou mais cilindros, mas geralmente esses motores s\u00e3o monocil\u00edndricos.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">A diferen\u00e7a para o motor de quatro tempos \u00e9 que os ciclos de admiss\u00e3o, compress\u00e3o, explos\u00e3o e exaust\u00e3o n\u00e3o s\u00e3o bem delimitados por causa da aus\u00eancia de v\u00e1lvulas. Na anima\u00e7\u00e3o a seguir, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel notar que a mistura ar\/combust\u00edvel (em verde) entra pelo c\u00e1rter e \u00e9 admitida por uma janela. A compress\u00e3o \u00e9 intensa e a explos\u00e3o \u00e9 instant\u00e2nea. Os produtos da exaust\u00e3o (cinza) s\u00e3o empurrados para fora do cilindro pela admiss\u00e3o de mais combust\u00edvel. Como n\u00e3o h\u00e1 espa\u00e7o para \u00f3leo no c\u00e1rter, \u00e9 preciso mistur\u00e1-lo com o combust\u00edvel para garantir a lubrifica\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2014\/05\/2-Stroke_Engine_ani10.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Por sua simplicidade de constru\u00e7\u00e3o \u2014 s\u00e3o poucas as pe\u00e7as m\u00f3veis \u2014, o motor de dois tempos ainda vive em aplica\u00e7\u00f5es port\u00e1teis, que precisam de motores pequenos e leves, como aeromodelos e cortadores de grama. Mas seria poss\u00edvel reduzir ainda mais um motor de dois tempos?<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Em artigo rec\u00e9m-publicado na <em>Nano Letters<\/em>, um grupo de pesquisa do Graphene Research Center, da National University de Cingapura, relata a constru\u00e7\u00e3o do primeiro motor de nanoescala similar a um motor de combust\u00e3o interna. Liderado por Jong Hak Lee, o grupo criou um motorzinho min\u00fasculo com uma camada de grafeno de um \u00e1tomo de espessura.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Evidentemente, h\u00e1 diferen\u00e7as em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a um motor de dois tempos macrosc\u00f3pico. N\u00e3o d\u00e1 pra fazer uma c\u00e2mara de combust\u00e3o, um pist\u00e3o e uma vela de igni\u00e7\u00e3o com uma camada t\u00e3o t\u00eanue de grafeno. Embora n\u00e3o haja combust\u00e3o alguma, h\u00e1 semelhan\u00e7as. O pr\u00f3prio grafeno funciona tanto como um pist\u00e3o quanto como \u201ccombust\u00edvel\u201d e um raio laser faz as vezes de vela. Como num motor de dois tempos cl\u00e1ssico, \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio misturar um \u201clubrificante\u201d ao combust\u00edvel\/pist\u00e3o para haver um bom funcionamento.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6407\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6407\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2014\/05\/nl-2014-00568d_0004.gif\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6407 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2014\/05\/nl-2014-00568d_0004.gif\" alt=\"nl-2014-00568d_0004\" width=\"500\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6407\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00c0 esq.: malha de grafeno &#8220;lubrificada&#8221; com ClF3. \u00c0 dir.: a bolha pist\u00e3o em pleno funcionamento. [Imagem: Lee et. al.]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p align=\"justify\">No caso do nanomotor, esse funcionamento tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 simples: quando o laser atinge o grafeno, este se aquece e se expande, formando uma bolha; quando o laser apaga, a bolha murcha. Acendendo e apagando o laser ciclicamente, temos um movimento semelhante ao de um pist\u00e3o. Nesse caso, os dois tempos s\u00e3o bem definidos: o tempo aceso e o apagado.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Mas se n\u00e3o tem atrito nem c\u00e2mara de combust\u00e3o, pra que serve o \u201clubrificante\u201d nesse caso? Pra evitar que o motorzinho de grafeno funda \u2014 ou melhor, estoure. Apesar de min\u00fasculo, o nanomotor de grafeno sofre press\u00f5es de at\u00e9 1 milh\u00e3o Pa, v\u00e1rias vezes maior que a press\u00e3o do interior de um pneu. Essa press\u00e3o varia de acordo com a pot\u00eancia do laser. Quanto mais potente o laser, mais cresce a bolha. Os pesquisadores de Cingapura observaram que um laser de 0,32mW [microWatt] resulta numa bolha de 550 nan\u00f4metros. Mas um laser com mais de 8,5mW gera uma press\u00e3o t\u00e3o grande que a nanobolha estoura.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Para minimizar esse efeito, Lee e seus colegas adicionaram mol\u00e9culas de trifluoreto de cloro (ClF<sub>3<\/sub>) \u00e0 malha de grafeno. As mol\u00e9culas de ClF<sub>3<\/sub> s\u00e3o atra\u00eddas por \u00e1tomos de carbono por liga\u00e7\u00f5es i\u00f4nicas. Quando o laser \u00e9 ligado, essas liga\u00e7\u00f5es s\u00e3o quebradas e o grafeno pode se expandir \u00e0 vontade. Quando o laser \u00e9 desligado, as mol\u00e9culas de ClF<sub>3<\/sub> s\u00e3o reabsorvidas pelo grafeno, diminuindo a press\u00e3o e fazendo a bolha murchar.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Nos testes feitos, ficou demonstrado que o motor de grafeno \u00e9 bastante confi\u00e1vel: nenhum sinal de degrada\u00e7\u00e3o foi observado ap\u00f3s 10 mil ciclos. A efici\u00eancia energ\u00e9tica tamb\u00e9m foi considerada bastante satisfat\u00f3ria. Segundo o professor Lee, uma aplica\u00e7\u00e3o simples para esse nanomotor de dois tempos seria como bomba para nanofluidos.
