N\u00e3o d\u00e1 pra encolher um filete com merc\u00fario at\u00e9 poder coloc\u00e1-lo numa c\u00e9lula. Mesmo que isso fosse poss\u00edvel, n\u00e3o haveria como enxergar a temperatura marcada (o que j\u00e1 \u00e9 meio dif\u00edcil com term\u00f4metros comuns). A miniaturiza\u00e7\u00e3o de dispositivos eletr\u00f4nicos seria uma possibilidade, mas ainda \u00e9 algo muito complicado nessa escala. Que tal, ent\u00e3o, usar mol\u00e9culas como prote\u00ednas e DNA?<!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Para resolver esse problema, \u00e9 preciso juntar os conhecimentos de nanotecn\u00f3logos e engenheiros gen\u00e9ticos. Quando a mol\u00e9cula de DNA foi descoberta, os bioqu\u00edmicos notaram que ela pode se desdobrar quando aquecida. O mesmo ocorre com o RNA e com prote\u00ednas, que se desenrolam (ou se desnaturam) ao esquentar demais. Mais recentemente, descobriu-se que os organismos vivos podem usar essas propriedades t\u00e9rmicas das prote\u00ednas para medir suas varia\u00e7\u00f5es internas de temperatura.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Inspirados pelas biomol\u00e9culas naturais, nanoterm\u00f4metros sint\u00e9ticos come\u00e7am a sair do Laborat\u00f3rio de Biossensores e Nanom\u00e1quinas do Departamento de Bioqu\u00edmica e Medicina Molecular da Universidade de Montreal, no Canad\u00e1 [ufa, que nome de institui\u00e7\u00e3o sesquiped\u00e1lico]. Sob coordena\u00e7\u00e3o do Prof. Alexis Vall\u00e9e-B\u00e9lisle foram criadas v\u00e1rias estruturas de DNA que podem se dobrar ou se desdobrar em temperaturas espec\u00edficas.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Segundo artigo publicado na <em>Nano Letters<\/em> em 8 de abril, o uso de DNA \u00e9 vantajoso na fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o de term\u00f4metros moleculares por dois motivos: sua qu\u00edmica j\u00e1 \u00e9 bem conhecida e relativamente simples; e a mol\u00e9cula de DNA \u00e9 program\u00e1vel.
