Poderia ser uma cena de academia, mas exerc\u00edcios como esse est\u00e3o sendo realizados num laborat\u00f3rio da Universidade de Harvard, onde cientistas est\u00e3o desenvolvendo um novo tipo de m\u00fasculos \u2014 atuadores a v\u00e1cuo.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Os m\u00fasculos de verdade, que todos n\u00f3s temos, s\u00e3o tecidos macios formados por fibras de actina e miosina. Capazes de absorver choques, os tecidos musculares funcionam por ciclos alternados de contra\u00e7\u00e3o e relaxamento. Durante a contra\u00e7\u00e3o, as fibras de <a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Actina\">actina<\/a>, mais finas, s\u00e3o puxadas pelas fibras de <a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miosina\">miosina<\/a>, mais grossas, que guiam e limitam as contra\u00e7\u00f5es. A energia para a contra\u00e7\u00e3o vem da quebra da mol\u00e9cula de <a href=\"https:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trifosfato_de_adenosina\">ATP<\/a> pela miosina. O resultado pode ser um andar firme e elegante ou o manejo adequado de um delicado copo de cristal. Agora compare a eleg\u00e2ncia dos nossos gestos com os movimentos de um rob\u00f4:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\" align=\"justify\">[youtube_sc url=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=g0TaYhjpOfo&#8221; autohide=&#8221;1&#8243; fs=&#8221;1&#8243; nocookie=&#8221;1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nOs movimentos rob\u00f3ticos s\u00e3o tragic\u00f4micos porque seus m\u00fasculos s\u00e3o grosseiros, baseados em sistemas eletromec\u00e2nicos com fluidos pressurizados, por exemplo. Mais que hil\u00e1rios, esses mecanismos podem ser perigosos: m\u00fasculos rob\u00f3ticos podem queimar ou explodir facilmente, ferindo n\u00e3o apenas a m\u00e1quina mas quem estiver por perto.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">No que depender do trabalho coordenado por George Whitesides, por\u00e9m, os dias dos rob\u00f4s desengon\u00e7ados est\u00e3o contados. Professor de Qu\u00edmica e Bioqu\u00edmica em Harvard, Whitesides \u00e9 membro do Instituto Wyss para Engenharia Biologicamente Inspirada, onde est\u00e1 desenvolvendo um sistema muscular artificial. O sistema proposto por Whitesides <em>et. al.<\/em> parte de uma abordagem oposta \u00e0 convencional: em vez de fluidos pressurizados, a contra\u00e7\u00e3o ocorre a v\u00e1cuo.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2016\/06\/puxando-ferro.gif\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8337 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2016\/06\/puxando-ferro.gif\" alt=\"puxando-ferro.gif\" width=\"344\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\">Sistemas de atua\u00e7\u00e3o a v\u00e1cuo n\u00e3o s\u00e3o novidade \u2014 pergunte ao seu pai ou seu av\u00f4 sobre os <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manifold_vacuum#Uses_of_manifold_vacuum\">limpadores de p\u00e1ra-brisa a v\u00e1cuo<\/a> usados at\u00e9 os anos 1950. A diferen\u00e7a \u00e9 que os atuadores a v\u00e1cuo dos laborat\u00f3rios de Harvard servem para contrair feixes de borracha. Os tais feixes de borracha tamb\u00e9m t\u00eam fibras mais grossas e mais finas, que formam as paredes de pequenas c\u00e2maras de ar. Ao ser aplicado, o v\u00e1cuo esvazia as c\u00e2maras, fazendo as fibras se juntarem.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">O resultado \u00e9 uma contra\u00e7\u00e3o vis\u00edvel da pe\u00e7a de borracha avermelhada feito um m\u00fasculo, que \u00e9 oficialmente chamada de VAMPs (<em>vacuum-actuated muscle-inspired pneumatic structures<\/em>, ou estruturas pneum\u00e1ticas ativadas a v\u00e1cuo, inspiradas em m\u00fasculos). As c\u00e2maras dos VAMPs s\u00e3o normalmente quadradas, mas podem ser constru\u00eddas em outras formas geom\u00e9tricas, o que permite outros tipos de movimentos al\u00e9m da contra\u00e7\u00e3o linear, como a contor\u00e7\u00e3o ou a dobra.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2016\/06\/bceps_vcuo.gif\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-3\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com.br\/hypercubic\/files\/2016\/06\/bceps_vcuo_thumb.gif\" alt=\"b\u00edceps_v\u00e1cuo\" width=\"377\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Diferente de outros sistemas, o VAMPs tem um tempo de rea\u00e7\u00e3o t\u00e3o imediato quanto o de m\u00fasculos naturais. Enquanto a contra\u00e7\u00e3o depende da aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de v\u00e1cuo, o relaxamento n\u00e3o precisa de um sistema pressurizado para reencher as c\u00e2maras de ar: a press\u00e3o atmosf\u00e9rica \u00e9 que distende o VAMPs. Sendo assim, n\u00e3o h\u00e1 risco de explos\u00e3o, o que deve permitir que o m\u00fasculo a v\u00e1cuo seja aplicado de maneira segura tanto em rob\u00f4s industriais quanto em rob\u00f4s dom\u00e9sticos, que poderiam ajudar a cuidar de pessoas idosas, por exemplo.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\">\u201cTer VAMPs feitos de elast\u00f4meros macios tornaria muito mais f\u00e1cil automatizar um rob\u00f4 que seria usado para ajudar humanos na ind\u00fastria de servi\u00e7os\u201d, explicou Dian Yang ao <a href=\"http:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2016-06-actuators-muscle.html\"><em>Phys.org<\/em><\/a>. Doutorando em Ci\u00eancias da Engenharia em Harvard, Yang \u00e9 o autor principal do <em>paper<\/em> que descreve a nova tecnologia, publicado em 1\u00ba. de junho na <em>Advanced Materials Technologies<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">At\u00e9 uma falha catastr\u00f3fica, causada por uma les\u00e3o f\u00edsica mesmo, seria segura. Os VAMPs s\u00e3o projetados para funcionar mesmo com furos de 2mm. A n\u00e3o ser que haja um corte profundo, o m\u00fasculo a v\u00e1cuo fica distendido, mas paralisado. No entanto, o controle do atuador ainda n\u00e3o \u00e9 muito preciso. S\u00f3 existem dois estados: contra\u00e7\u00e3o a v\u00e1cuo ou distens\u00e3o total.
