Pode parecer uma piada, mas \u00e9 isso o que est\u00e1 acontecendo num laborat\u00f3rio sueco.<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">Leve, el\u00e1stica, elegante e ao mesmo tempo forte, a seda j\u00e1 n\u00e3o \u00e9 mais o material dos sonhos de estilistas mas tamb\u00e9m de cientistas. Mas sua produ\u00e7\u00e3o continua sendo lenta nas fazendas de bicho-da-seda, o que encarece seu uso tanto na moda quanto na ci\u00eancia. Se pudesse ser fabricada em escala industrial e com algumas modifica\u00e7\u00f5es, a seda poderia ser base para avan\u00e7os tecnol\u00f3gicos como biossensores ou curativos biodegrad\u00e1veis. Por isso, n\u00e3o faltam pesquisas que tentam sintetizar a seda em laborat\u00f3rio.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">No Real Instituto de Tecnologia da Su\u00e9cia, existe uma equipe de pesquisadores chefiada pelos Drs. Christofer Lendel and Fredrik Lundell que \u00e9 especializada em materiais automont\u00e1veis. Isso significa que existem prote\u00ednas que se montam sozinhas nas condi\u00e7\u00f5es certas. O laborat\u00f3rio de Lendel e Lundell j\u00e1 conseguiu a proeza de produzir fibras de madeira artificiais a partir de fibrilas de celulose. Agora, o mesmo m\u00e9todo pode servir para produzir seda artificialmente.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">O m\u00e9todo em quest\u00e3o chama-se focagem hidrodin\u00e2mica e \u00e9 muito parecido com o que as aranhas fazem para produzir suas teias de seda: \u201cUm fluido carregador com essas nanofibrilas de prote\u00ednas passa por um pequeno canal. Adiciona-se \u00e1gua perpendicularmente, pelos lados, o que pressiona as fibrilas a se juntar e formar uma fibra\u201d, explica Lundell em comunicado do <em><a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2017-01-scientists-artificial-silk-whey-protein.html\">Phys.org<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1440px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.eurekalert.org\/multimedia_prod\/pub\/web\/131341_web.jpg\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1018\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Focagem hidrodin\u00e2mica: suspensas num l\u00edquido, as fibrilas de whey s\u00e3o pressionadas por dois jatos de \u00e1gua at\u00e9 formarem um fio de seda. [Imagem: DESY\/Eberhard Reimann]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p align=\"justify\">Para tentar produzir seda, Lundell e seus colegas usaram nanofibrilas extra\u00eddas de <em>whey protein<\/em> de vaca alterada por calor e acidez. Conforme relataram em artigo publicado na <em>Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/em>, as caracter\u00edsticas das fibrilas dependem da concentra\u00e7\u00e3o da prote\u00edna utilizada. Eles descobriram que, abaixo de 4% de concentra\u00e7\u00e3o, formam-se fibrilas longas, grossas, fortes e lisas. Com uma solu\u00e7\u00e3o de 6% ou mais de prote\u00ednas, as fibrilas ficam curtas, finas, macias e recurvadas.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Era de se esperar que as fibrilas longas e fortes formassem uma boa seda, mas observou-se que as fibrilas molengas em forma de v\u00edrgula, resultantes de solu\u00e7\u00f5es mais concentradas, deram fibras melhores. A explica\u00e7\u00e3o veio com a ajuda de raios-X, que mostraram as fibrilas menores se engancham de maneira mais aleat\u00f3ria, por\u00e9m mais eficiente. Estruturalmente, \u00e9 como se as fibrilas fosse juntadas por um velcro microsc\u00f3pico.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Embora pare\u00e7a um feito not\u00e1vel, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de seda a partir de whey protein ainda est\u00e1 engatinhando. Tudo o que os cientistas suecos foram capazes de produzir foram fibras de seda artificial com cinco mil\u00edmetros de comprimento e qualidade mediana. No entanto, Lendel afirma que a <em>whey protein<\/em> foi usada apenas como prova de conceito.
