Mas o que aconteceria se esses \u00e1tomos fossem resfriados at\u00e9 fra\u00e7\u00f5es de grau acima do zero absoluto?\u00a0Para entender isso, a NASA est\u00e1 preparando um congelador at\u00f4mico que ser\u00e1 lan\u00e7ado ao espa\u00e7o.<\/h4>\n<p align=\"justify\">Algo do tamanho e formato de uma caixa de isopor vai estar em meio \u00e0 bagagem da nave CRS-12, da Space X, que ser\u00e1 lan\u00e7ada em agosto. Engana-se quem apostar que ser\u00e1 uma remessa de cervejinhas geladas para a tripula\u00e7\u00e3o da Esta\u00e7\u00e3o Espacial Internacional (EEI). No interior daquela caixa haver\u00e1 um conjunto de lasers, uma c\u00e2mara de v\u00e1cuo, uma esp\u00e9cie de faca eletromagn\u00e9tica e algumas part\u00edculas de g\u00e1s. \u00c9 o <em>Cold Atom Laboratory<\/em> (CAL), que est\u00e1 quase pronto no Laborat\u00f3rio de Jato-Propuls\u00e3o (JPL) da NASA.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Projetado para congelar os \u00e1tomos de g\u00e1s a um bilion\u00e9simo de grau acima do zero absoluto, o CAL vai abrigar o ponto mais frio do universo. Seu interior vai ficar 100 milh\u00f5es de vezes mais frio que as profundezas do espa\u00e7o.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Quando submetidos a tamanho resfriamento, os \u00e1tomos se juntam num estado da mat\u00e9ria conhecido como Condensado de Bose-Einstein e se comportam menos como part\u00edculas e mais como ondas. As fileiras de \u00e1tomos condensados movem-se de maneira ordenada como uma ola na arquibancada de um est\u00e1dio \u2014 s\u00f3 que em superc\u00e2mera-lenta. Na pr\u00e1tica, um condensado desse tipo \u00e9 um superfluido, algo parecido com um l\u00edquido com viscosidade zero.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">N\u00e3o vai ser a primeira vez que \u00e1tomos ser\u00e3o praticamente congelados, mas isso nunca foi feito fora da Terra, num ambiente de gravidade zero. Na Terra, sob influ\u00eancia gravitacional, essa ondula\u00e7\u00e3o at\u00f4mica cessa em fra\u00e7\u00f5es de segundo. Na EEI, dentro do CAL, estima-se que um condensado de Bose-Einstein poder\u00e1 manter sua vibra\u00e7\u00e3o entre 5 e 10 segundos.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\u201cEstudar esses \u00e1tomos hiper-frios pode remodelar nosso entendimento da mat\u00e9ria e da natureza fundamental da gravidade\u201d, explica o cientista Robert Thompson, projetista do CAL no JPL. \u201cOs experimentos que faremos com o Cold Atom Lab nos permitir\u00e3o dar uma espiada na gravidade e na energia escura \u2014 algumas das for\u00e7as mais evasivas do universo\u201d, diz ele em comunicado divulgado no <em><a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2017-03-nasa-coolest-universe.html\">Phys.org<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Entre os cientistas que est\u00e3o planejando experi\u00eancias com o CAL est\u00e1 Eric Cornell, da Universidade do Colorado. Nobel de F\u00edsica de 2001, Cornell foi um dos primeiros a conseguir criar condensados de Bose-Einstein em 1995. Do ponto de vista mais pr\u00e1tico, esses experimentos podem ao aperfei\u00e7oamento de diversas tecnologias, como sensores, computadores qu\u00e2nticos e os rel\u00f3gios at\u00f4micos usados nas viagens espaciais.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Atualmente a montagem do CAL est\u00e1 conclu\u00edda e os testes j\u00e1 come\u00e7aram.
