E h\u00e1 um bom motivo para se preocupar.<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A Pen\u00ednsula Ant\u00e1rtica est\u00e1 no centro das aten\u00e7\u00f5es de quem acompanha as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas por causa do risco, cada vez maior, do <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.uol.com.br\/rachadura-gigante-plataforma-gelo-larsen-c-antartica\/\">desprendimento de Larsen C<\/a>, uma plataforma de gelo gigantesca. Com a eleva\u00e7\u00e3o da temperatura na regi\u00e3o, outra mudan\u00e7a mais sutil tamb\u00e9m prova que o aquecimento global \u00e9 pra valer: a Ant\u00e1rtica est\u00e1 ficando verde.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Embora todo mundo pense que o continente austral \u00e9 um deserto branco, g\u00e9lido\u00a0e desprovido de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o, a Ant\u00e1rtica tem l\u00e1 sua flora. Composta principalmente por musgos, a flora cobre apenas 0,3% do continente. Com a eleva\u00e7\u00e3o das temperaturas, o branco est\u00e1 come\u00e7ando a dar lugar ao verde. Essa \u00e9 a descoberta de cientistas do Programa Ant\u00e1rtico Brit\u00e2nico.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<figure style=\"width: 2905px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cell.com\/cms\/attachment\/2096737015\/2078022074\/gr1_lrg.jpg\" alt=\"Locais com cobertura de musgo pesquisados pelo Programa Ant\u00e1rtico Brit\u00e2nico. [Fig. 1 de Amesbury <em>et. al.<\/em>]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Numa faixa de cerca de 600 km ao longo da Pen\u00ednsula Ant\u00e1rtica existem muitos bancos de musgo. Essa \u00e1rea vem sendo estudada e documentada h\u00e1 cerca de 50 anos. Agora, os cientistas brit\u00e2nicos examinaram cinco amostras de musgo de tr\u00eas localidades. Bancos de musgo s\u00e3o verdadeiros arquivos biol\u00f3gicos e permitem analisar mudan\u00e7as ao longo dos \u00faltimos 150 anos. Dados clim\u00e1ticos reunidos desde os anos 1950 tamb\u00e9m foram levados em conta na an\u00e1lise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Rec\u00e9m-publicados na revista <em>Current Biology<\/em>, os resultados da pesquisa revelam a intensifica\u00e7\u00e3o da atividade biol\u00f3gica dos musgos nos \u00faltimos 50 anos. \u201cA sensibilidade do crescimento do musgo a eleva\u00e7\u00f5es de temperatura passadas sugere que esses ecossistemas v\u00e3o se alterar rapidamente sob aquecimento futuro, levando a mudan\u00e7as profundas na biologia e na paisagem dessa regi\u00e3o ic\u00f4nica\u201d, diz em comunicado ao <em><a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2017-05-antarctica-greening-due-climate.html\">Phys.org<\/a><\/em> o Prof. Dan Charman, que liderou a pesquisa na Universidade de Exeter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mas ser\u00e1 que devemos nos preocupar com plantinhas min\u00fasculas crescendo numa pequena \u00e1rea da Ant\u00e1rtica? Sim. Ao contr\u00e1rio do gelo, que \u00e9 branco e reflete a maior parte da energia solar que recebe, a cobertura vegetal \u00e9 mais escura e absorve o calor do Sol.
