A vida teatral nessa cidade tem as suas peculiaridades. Uma \u00e9 que (salvo circunst\u00e2ncias especiais) \u00e9 imposs\u00edvel a longa perman\u00eancia de uma pe\u00e7a em cartaz; cada teatro apresenta, via de regra, quatro ou cinco diferentes pe\u00e7as por semana, uma vez que todos eles s\u00e3o teatros de repert\u00f3rio. Se uma pe\u00e7a nova, todavia, constitui um grande sucesso, ela pode permanecer no repert\u00f3rio de um dado teatro durante um longo per\u00edodo; certa pe\u00e7a, produzida pela primeira vez em 1954 ainda \u00e9 sucesso [em 1957]. Outra peculiaridade \u00e9 que n\u00e3o h\u00e1 estrelas, pelo menos oficialmente e n\u00e3o existe o culto do estrelismo. Os int\u00e9rpretes, ao inv\u00e9s disso, tornam-se com o tempo \u201cEstimados Artistas da RFSSR\u201d (ou outra rep\u00fablica), ascendendo depois \u00e0 categoria de \u201cArtistas do Povo\u201d, t\u00edtulo de \u00e2mbito regional, para, finalmente, atingirem a suprema honra, que \u00e9 a promo\u00e7\u00e3o para a categoria de \u201cArtistas do Povo da URSS\u201d, como [a bailarina <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Galina_Ulanova\">Gal\u00edna Serg\u00e9yevna]<b>\u00a0<\/b>Ulanova<\/a>. \u2014 GUNTHER, John. <em>A R\u00fassia por dentro<\/em>. Mas os atores e atrizes t\u00eam o privil\u00e9gio de escrever cartas aos jornais \u2013 e s\u00e3o mesmo encorajados a faz\u00ea-lo \u2013 expondo o que tiverem a dizer em resposta aos cr\u00edticos. Uma pr\u00e1tica not\u00e1vel \u00e9 a conhecida institui\u00e7\u00e3o sovi\u00e9tica da cr\u00edtica p\u00fablica. Seria divertido adot\u00e1-la em nosso meio, embora ela pudesse provocar o caos na Rua 42 ou em Picadilly. Os teatros de Moscou, uma ou duas vezes por ano, realizam reuni\u00f5es p\u00fablicas, amplamente anunciadas; o p\u00fablico \u00e9 convidado a comparecer e, se o quiser, crivar de perguntas o produtor, diretor, autor e atores, que se re\u00fanem no palco. Cada assistente pode falar durante tr\u00eas minutos e centenas de pessoas se manifestam. A pe\u00e7a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Autumn_Garden\"><i>Jardim de Outono<\/i><\/a>, de <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lillian_Hellman\">Lilian Hellman<\/a>, que teve recentemente um not\u00e1vel sucesso em Moscou, foi discutida dessa forma. V\u00e1rios dos cr\u00edticos amadores declararam que ela lhes lembrava Tchekov; alguns declararam generosamente que n\u00e3o podiam admitir que ela fosse realmente representativa das condi\u00e7\u00f5es de vida nos Estados Unidos.
