Esse sistema de defesa n\u00e3o atua em uma \u00fanica frente. H\u00e1 uma defesa inicial promovida pela imunidade natural (aquela que j\u00e1 est\u00e1 presente antes do aparecimento de uma infe\u00e7\u00e3o e \u00e9 inicial no combate contra um microrganismo). Um exemplo de componente de prote\u00e7\u00e3o que faz parte da imunidade natural \u00e9 a pele. Ela funciona como uma barreira de defesa, evitando que a maioria dos pat\u00f3genos do ambiente entre em contato com nossos \u00f3rg\u00e3os ou nossa corrente sangu\u00ednea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Al\u00e9m da imunidade natural, h\u00e1 a imunidade adaptativa ou adquirida: \u00e9 aquela que \u00e9 estimulada ap\u00f3s a exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao agente infeccioso. A diferen\u00e7a principal entre elas \u00e9 que na imunidade adquirida h\u00e1 uma \u201cmem\u00f3ria\u201d do sistema imune em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 uma exposi\u00e7\u00e3o pr\u00e9via ao microrganismo. As duas atuam em conjunto na prote\u00e7\u00e3o do corpo contra pat\u00f3genos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">No sistema de mem\u00f3ria da imunidade adquirida, os linf\u00f3citos s\u00e3o os grandes protagonistas. Essas c\u00e9lulas s\u00e3o capazes de responder a ant\u00edgenos, part\u00edculas ou mol\u00e9culas estranhas. Existem v\u00e1rios tipos, ou subpopula\u00e7\u00f5es, de linf\u00f3citos. Eles t\u00eam diferentes formas de reconhecimento de ant\u00edgenos e fun\u00e7\u00f5es.<\/p>\n<h5>O que se sabia at\u00e9 agora?<\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">At\u00e9 ent\u00e3o, o que algumas pesquisas mostravam \u00e9 que junto aos sintomas severos associados ao \u00f3bito dos pacientes, acontecia uma resposta inflamat\u00f3ria bem intensa. Al\u00e9m disso, as pesquisas identificaram uma baixa quantidade de linf\u00f3citos no sangue, notaram o desaparecimento de c\u00e9lulas T (uma das subpopula\u00e7\u00f5es de linf\u00f3citos) e baixa capacidade de adapta\u00e7\u00e3o do sistema imune.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Esses foram alguns dos pontos de partida da pesquisa coordenada pelos professores Alessandro Farias e Marcelo Mori da Unicamp. Na pesquisa, os pesquisadores de 13 laborat\u00f3rios diferentes, muitos dos quais participaram da For\u00e7a Tarefa da Unicamp, investigaram quais tipos de c\u00e9lulas do sistema imune o v\u00edrus SARS-CoV-2 era capaz de infectar, incluindo os linf\u00f3citos. Al\u00e9m disso, os pesquisadores analisaram qual o mecanismo envolvido neste processo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Para que o v\u00edrus infecte uma c\u00e9lula, \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio que haja alguma forma de reconhecimento de uma prote\u00edna do v\u00edrus pelas c\u00e9lulas do nosso corpo. Ent\u00e3o, antes de continuar o experimento na bancada, eles usaram um sistema de predi\u00e7\u00e3o da intera\u00e7\u00e3o entre prote\u00ednas do v\u00edrus e as presentes na membrana externa das c\u00e9lulas humanas. Para descobrir, <text> eles purificaram as c\u00e9lulas T\u00a0de pacientes com COVID-19. Novamente, encontraram o v\u00edrus apenas na c\u00e9lula T CD4+<\/text>. Mais do que isso, eles perceberam que a infec\u00e7\u00e3o est\u00e1 relacionada com a severidade da doen\u00e7a, em outras pala\u00advras: quanto mais debilitado o paciente, mais c\u00e9lulas T CD4<sup>+<\/sup>\u00a0estavam infectadas.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Em seguida, os pesquisadores se perguntaram como a prote\u00edna do v\u00edrus interage com a prote\u00edna CD4. Com esta finalidade, eles fizeram outros experimentos para conferir se a prote\u00edna <em>Spike<\/em> do SARS-CoV-2 tamb\u00e9m interage com a prote\u00edna CD4 humana, como acontecia com a <em>Spike<\/em> do SARS-CoV-1. E desconfiaram que elas n\u00e3o s\u00f3 interagem: a prote\u00edna CD4 pode ser a porta de entrada da infec\u00e7\u00e3o dos linf\u00f3citos por SARS-CoV-2.<\/p>\n<h5>Mas no que impacta a contamina\u00e7\u00e3o dos linf\u00f3citos T CD4<sup>+<\/sup>,<sup> <\/sup>afinal?<\/h5>\n<p>Impacta muito!
