{"id":3014,"date":"2021-05-29T23:15:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-30T02:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/?p=3014"},"modified":"2022-05-23T17:48:52","modified_gmt":"2022-05-23T20:48:52","slug":"scientific-dissemination-of-measurement-theory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/3014\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientific Dissemination of Measurement Theory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When we think about Scientific Disclosure, it is important that the elements of communication are present in the process of dialogue between the researcher and the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Terra and Nicola [1], the word communication is rooted in the common word: communicating is the act of making common, known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jakobson [2] argues that for communication to occur, the following elements are necessary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>issuer<\/strong><\/td><td>someone who conveys the message<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>receiver<\/strong><\/td><td>to whom the message is addressed<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>message<\/strong><\/td><td>information intended to convey<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>code<\/strong><\/td><td>a set common to the sender and the recipient formed by elements and rules that allow the understanding of the message<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>referent<\/strong><\/td><td>which involves the subject, the situation between the sender and the recipient and the linguistic context of the message<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>channel<\/strong><\/td><td>physical medium to convey the message<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>psychological connection<\/strong><\/td><td>that leads the recipient to be interested in what transmits the transmitted message<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To contextualize this discussion, we will take the Measure Theory. A field of mathematics studies that was developed between the 19th and 20th centuries by Emile Borel, Henri Lebesgue, Johann Radon and Maurice Fr\u00e9chet, whose main applications are:<br><strong>foundation<\/strong> of the Lebesgue integral, which generalizes the Riemann integral;<br><strong>axiomatize<\/strong> Andrey Kolmogorov&#8217;s probability theory;<br><strong>define<\/strong> integral in more general spaces than Euclidean ones [3].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, here are three examples of scientific dissemination of Measure Theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meme below, the humor is found in the fact that the Lebesgue Integral, one of the fields of study of Measure Theory, is applicable without several of the conditions necessary to realize the Riemann Integral. Thus, the character on the left defends Integration according to the requirements necessary for the Riemann Integral, while the character on the right doesn&#8217;t even care about any of these requirements and already assumes that the Lebesgue Integral will work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"597\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/meme-integral-rieman-lebesque-traduzido-1024x597.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2967\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/meme-integral-rieman-lebesque-traduzido-1024x597.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/meme-integral-rieman-lebesque-traduzido-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/meme-integral-rieman-lebesque-traduzido-768x448.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/meme-integral-rieman-lebesque-traduzido.jpg 1101w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Another example of scientific dissemination of Measure Theory appears in the actions of Silvius Klein, PhD in Mathematics from the University of California, when he introduces his Measure Theory course presenting a character from the digital game Pok\u00e9mon (figure below) as \u201ca reasonably accurate representation of the techniques and topics of study in this area\u201d. Affirming that to make the representation even more accurate, it is up to the subject to \u201cincrease the resolution\u201d (ie, represent the image with smaller and smaller squares).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/c8782c30514669a-1024x879.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2970\" width=\"1024\" height=\"879\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/c8782c30514669a-1024x879.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/c8782c30514669a-300x258.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/c8782c30514669a-768x660.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.blogs.unicamp.br\/zero\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/05\/c8782c30514669a.jpg 1034w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Material available in Professor Silvius Klein&#8217;s handout (<a href=\"https:\/\/silviusklein.github.io\/teaching\/mat2621_2020.1\/main.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/silviusklein.github.io\/teaching\/mat2621_2020.1\/main.html<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, we also have the approach of Regis Var\u00e3o, professor and researcher in Mathematics at Unicamp, on his YouTube channel <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCyla_q47yxMNhO4Z78C51mw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fant\u00e1stico Mundo Matem\u00e1tico<\/a><\/strong>, which contextualizes some results on Measurement Theory in a fictitious planet and with very peculiar conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Teoria da medida e nossa v\u00e3 intui\u00e7\u00e3o.
